How do we know if co-mediation is right for us?

Co-mediation provides an excellent option for couples that are willing to work together but require assistance negotiating the terms of a settlement.

Mediation offers:

  • Effective help to navigate your marital transition
  • An umbrella of privacy and confidentiality
  • Time and cost savings over conventional divorce

Is co-mediation cost effective?

Absolutely! The collective process increases efficiency and usually reduces the time needed to arrive at solutions. As a gender-balanced team with nearly 60 years of combined experience we are efficient at helping to reduce conflict and expedite the process. Our fees are less than the hourly rate of many divorce litigation attorneys, providing cost efficient results.

What if my spouse knows more about our finances than I do?

It is not uncommon for one party in a marriage to be primarily responsible for the finances. Co-mediation ensures a balance of power that considers the interests and needs of both parties. Our process is focused on full, open disclosure and shared responsibility in negotiations of all assets and obligations.

One of the benefits of mediation is access to a neutral financial professional to help sort out monetary considerations. The neutral professional is able to explain complicated fiscal matters to either or both parties and can help devise solutions to issues that may arise.

Is a court appearance necessary?

No. Neither party is required to appear in court.

How will I know that my rights are protected?

Each party will be fully informed of his or her rights both during the negotiation process and before any settlement agreement is signed. The attorney /mediator is able to provide legal information to both parties during the process. Once you and your spouse reach an agreement on all issues, the mediator prepares the settlement agreement. Each party has the option of a review by a consulting attorney should he or she wish to do so.
